CORRUPTION and bad leadership are among the problems identified to be hindering the growth and development of Nigeria as a country by the International Movement for Unity and Progress of Africa, IMUPA.
The movement said corruption has prevented the country from reaching the height envisaged by the founding fathers, stressing that it was only through a change of attitude that true democracy could be enthroned in the country.
Speaking at a public lecture organised by IMUPA to mark Nigeria’s 50th independence day anniversary at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Dr SMC Ezeugwu, who entitled his lecture “Reviving the Socio- Political Acts of Great Heros of Blessed Memory- A Great Challenge to Men of Our Generation”, said any nation with bad leaders is finished.
He said our founding fathers like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr Nnamdi Azikwe, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, Mallam Aminu Kano among others were true nationalists who had the interest of the country and their people at heart by sharing what they had with the people. He stated that no leader has outdone Awolowo’s free education system till date, stressing that Nigeria is long over due for free education to all her citizens and called on the leaders to show a little love to the masses.
