KANO — People suspected to be hired assassins exploited the cloak of the night on Monday to slaughter an Assistant Director of the State Security Service, SSS, his wife and three children.

The former top security chief identified as Garba Bello, 54, an indigene of Hadejia in Jigawa State, was based in Sokoto and was in Kano for sallah break when he met his untimely death alongside his wife, Habiba, 40, who was suffocated and stabbed to death while the kids who were also identified as Khalifa 14, Hafsat 16, and Murjanatu 5 years respectively received the same treatment.

However, Bello, the eldest child, Baba 20, escaped unhurt, while Farouk 10 who received several cuts at his abdominal region survived the attack and was picked up by early callers to their residence and taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital before the SSS whisked him away to unknown hospital in the city.
The incident which occurred at flat 173 FGH, Gandun Albasa Housing Estate within the precinct of Police outpost and heavily policed Gidan Buhari junction jolted the city and cut the frenzy of sallah celebration.

A neighbour and friend of the deceased, Mallam Aminu, told Vanguard that late Bello was an outpatient with Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and was in Kano to keep appointment with his doctor and as well celebrate sallah with his family.

Mallam Aminu, who also works in Sokoto explained that he was inundated by the tragic development by another neighbour and rushed to the friend’s residence and met him in a pool of blood, pointing out late SSS officer was ‘slaughtered’.
