BENIN—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, yesterday, inaugurated the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission, EDOPADEC, describing the past commission inaugurated by Prof Osarhiemen Osunbor, as reckless and corrupt.
The seven-man commission is chaired by Mr Vincent Uwadia. Governor Oshiomhole, attributed the delay in inaugurating the Commission to what he described as the refusal of the former leadership of the state House of Assembly, led by Zakawanu Garuba, to approve the new commission. He said that his government refused to work with the former commission because it was inaugurated by a “government that was never appointed by the people of Edo State.”
Beside, Oshiomhole noted that “ the Useni Elamah-led Asset Verification Committee, discovered that the former commission did not apply the resources accrued to it judiciously. They were reckless and failed to uplift the lives of the people of the oil producing communities.
“They themselves would even agree that there is nothing to show for the resources they received. And as a government that promised to change the lives of our people, there was no way I could be persuaded to do business with such a commission,” he added.
