As Nigeria celebrates the 50th anniversary of nationhood on October 1, President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters club, Rafiu Ladipo has enjoined Nigerians in all walks of life to show solidarity with the country by appearing in white green white attires on that day.
Speaking on an initiative which would see Nigerians appearing in national colours every Friday, Ladipo said, “on October 1, 2010, we would like to see Nigerians show solidarity and give honour to their fatherland by wearing something that bears the national colours. It could be a tie, a cap or even a wrist band.”
The supporters club boss, said it was a project which they wanted to go beyond the 50th independence anniversary. “Tomorrow, I will be in Abuja to discuss this with all the relevant authorities.
As members of the supporters club, we have done so much in selling the name of Nigeria outside this country, but everybody has to be involved and we are ready to champion that cause,” Ladipo said.
Continuing, he said, “we are appealing to Nigerians to believe in their country, to identify with the aspirations of our nationhood. This is how we can project Nigeria to the outside world.”
He said beyond October 1, the leadership of the supporters club would reach the national assembly and other relevant bodies to ensure it became a national culture.
