Accusation, absurd — Akala

IBADAN—EMBATTLED leader of the anti-Adebayo Alao-Akala lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr. Samuel Adejumobi has alleged that the state government is making clandestine move to kidnap him.

He was among the six lawmakers purportedly suspended after the mayhem in the legislative arm when armed thugs attacked some lawmakers plotting the removal of the Speaker, Mr. Moruf Atilola who was alleged to be sympathetic to the governor.

While narrating how the plan was to be hatched, he stated that a purported peace meeting to which he was invited was slated for 2pm on Sunday after which the kidnappers would abduct him.

According to him, many overtures had been made to him by the state government to cross to his side but he vowed never to surrender and join those that were not ready to question the way the state resources were spent.

He said just yesterday (Sunday), the Speaker of the House called him and asked if he was at home. He added that he spoke with him for about 15 minutes threatening him that he cannot get away with his opposition that he mounted against the government.

He quoted the Speaker as saying he (Adejumobi) had the guts to serve a notice by the Osun State Police on some people who caused mayhem at Irawo where he wanted to meet his loyalists.

But Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala who had earlier been alleged by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and ex-governor of the state, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina replied saying, “the allegation attempt to kidnap by the former Majority leader is an absurd accusation in the wake of the meaningless one on assassination attempt. Putting away a political minor serves no purpose for a political party savouring an imminent victory.

“This disgruntled elements working in tandem with the opposition must stop the kindergaten game of assailing the sensibilites of our people, Akala said.

Adejumobi said somebody called him and told him that some people had been paid to kidnap him between today and tomorrow.

According to him the information could not be dismissed with kid gloves because some minutes before thugs invaded the legislaive arm, he was told that some hoodlums had been detailed to cause mayhem.
