Aminu Maigari may emerge the next President of the Nigeria Football Federation. Chairmen of the Football Associations are behind him. But there are many who are also behind Sani Toro and Alhaji Tinjani Yusuf.
Davidson Onwumi is chairman of the League Board and he automatically assumes the position of the Second Vice President. He is from South South but a candidate of South East where he served Enugu Rangers as a player and manager.
The association chairmen found reason to be united when the sports ministry asked state commissioners of sports to work for changes in the country’s football. Maigairi, being the current President of NFF and exploiting some power of incumbency, became the rallying point. But some of the delegates confirmed that Toro and Yusuf are giving him a hot chase.
In one some of the meetings the delegates held, they agreed that Bukola Olakpade, the commissioner of sports in Ogun State would be appointed Secretary-General of the federation. It was on this basis that Olakpade withdrew from the Presidential race.
Fani Amun, one time Secretary-General and former coach of the Under 17 is being touted to be voted as First Vice President. The Maigari group which appears to be very conspicuous in the scheming for now planned to vote along these lines.
