FG threatens to sanction contractors over slow pace of work

By  Chris OCHAYI, Abuja
THE Federal Government has threatened contractors handling the construction of Skill Acquisition Centres in the nine states of the Niger Delta region to speed up actions on their various sites or be ready to face sanctions.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, who gave the warning during a meeting with contractors and stakeholders from the region in his office in Abuja, lamented the slow pace of work in the various sites across the region.

He warned that any contractor who failed to expedite action on his work would have his contracts revoked without fear or favour.

According to him, “my initial plan was to award these projects to multi-national construction giants like Julius Berger and Setraco, but because of arguments by some well meaning individuals that infrastructural development should attract the empowerment of our people.”

Elder Orubebe disclosed that the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was also saddened by the slow pace of work because “we feel that the early completion of  those projects would go  a long way in solving the problems of the youths”.
