Oliha, Ekpo want ex-Eagles to run NFA

By Kate Obodo
Former Super Eagles midfielders Thompson Oliha  and Friday Ekpo have said the new  Nigeria Football Association, (NFA)  should  consist of  people who  are experienced and vast in the game.

According to them, time has come for people  who have played the game and know what it takes to manage football, to control football in Nigeria, rather than putting same people who  know nothing about the game.

Speaking with Saturday Vanguard Sports, via telephone Oliha stated that it would be a good thing as it is done in other countries to have people or ex-internationals who have played the game manage the game.

He believes corruption has eaten deep into the NFA  and needs the right  people  to move the game  forward.
“There is the need for ex-internationals to occupy virtually all aspect in the Nigeria Football Association.

This will go a long way to effect a good change. Our NFA is too porous and corrupt, we have to make a lot of amendments, this is why we need people who have played the game  to come forward now. We need strong and experienced hands not people or politicians that  know nothing about the game,” he said

“I want to see a new look of NFA, were there are professionals. Those who are trained and have played the game. Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers even the Armed Forces are ruled by their own people and not outsiders.

Ever since they (NFA) have been  ruling or controlling the affairs of  football, it has not been well with our  football. I want to see an NFA with ex-internationals and not politicians,” Ekpo said.
