NAFDAC impounds N30m fake drugs

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has impounded fake pharmaceutical products valued at N30 million even as it arrested one of the alleged female importers of the products simply identified as Mrs. Anyaoha Ngozi Margaret upon arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
Addressing Journalists in Lagos at the latest seizures, the Director General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii who lamented activities of counterfeiters in the country explained that the huge seizures were made between 23 and 25 of June 2010 at both Murtala Mohammed International airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

Some of the fake drugs include antibiotics, antimalarial and Psychotropic drug such as Ciprotab, Ciporfloxacin, Larinam Lexotam amongst others.

Orhii who was represented by Director Port Inspectorate Directorate (PID) Mr. Momodu-Segiru Momodu acknowledged that the counterfeiters no longer use land borders and sea ports since all that roots have been uncovered by the Agency said the fake antibiotics were imported aboard Lufthansa Airlines from China via Frankfurt into Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport and concealed amidst some other items.
