Golden Eaglets coach, Monday Odigie has confessed that he was still struggling to assemble a team that can prosecute a successful qualifying series ahead of next year’s CAN Under-17 Championship in Rwanda.
Speaking on the impending qualifying match, Odigie, who took over the mantle of leadership from John Obuh, who led the Eaglets to the finals of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Abuja last year, said that he has been having a torrid time selecting the perfect crop of players who would do the nation proud in their forthcoming matches.
“It has not been easy finding the right players who can be counted on to defend the pride of the country. As I am talking to you now, I do not have a team which I can present to Nigerians. Most of the players who I have tried, have not met the standard but I am not giving up on the dream of finding the best legs for the country.
“But the good thing that has come out from my search since I started camping with these players is that I am getting the real under-17 players for the country and by the end of the exercise, Nigerians would be proud to have a team which is truly made up of players below the age of 17″, added Odigie, over the telephone line.
