UGHELLI — THE Initiative for Better Power Supply, a non-governmental organisation, has appealed to workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, to suspend their planned strike action in the interest of power consumers.
The group in a statement by its national coordinator, Mr. Don Emmanuel Onose, and Technical Director, Ayembi Adidi, asked the PHCN workers to adopt the principle of dialogue over the delay in the payment of their monetization arrears.
The group said: “We can understand their plight over the continuous delay in the payment of the monetization arrears, including other variable emolument such as 150 per cent difference in salary negotiation, improved condition of service, and possibly new welfare packages.â€
“The Federal Government is committed to the realization of generating maximum mega watts for Nigerians,we therefore, urge workers of the PHCN not to jeopardize government effort in this regard.
“While we are appealing to PHCN staff, management and union, the Federal Government should also look at the request critically and proffer solution to the workers request as quickly as possible.â€
“These are the same people that would man the potentiality of the improved supply either the generation, transmission or the distribution of the power to the entire populace when eventually we arrived,†it added.
