BENIN—THE Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Edo State, Dr Tunde Lakoju, who declared his ambition to run for the 2011 senatorial seat for Edo North district of the state, weekend, said that only the people of the area will decide who picks the senatorial ticket for the party and not “money bags.”

Lakoju, who also was a former member of the Federal House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003, explained that he delayed making his intensions known to his people because he had to wait and inform his boss, Governor Adams Oshiomhole. He stated this while addressing the crowd at Igarra, weekend.

According to him, “The issue is not about money, when people bring money and stretch to you, you see their hand but you do not see their heart. You do not know what the inner motives are.

Now I am not saying that money is not good. But luckily for us, God gave us Adams Oshiomhole as Governor. If he had not come, people like us would not venture into the scene because of our experiences in Edo state where one person sits down some where and allocates seats to his cohorts.

“And at the end of the day we continue to lament. We have to give thanks to God particularly for bringing Adams Oshiomhole to liberate us. As it is today, he has successfully kicked out the godfather to sleep and it is not likely that he himself, having fought hard to give us a voice, would remove the godfather and replace that godfather with himself.

If anybody goes around to tell you that Adams Oshiomhole has anointed me, tell the person to go to hell, it is not true at all.

He explained that “I delayed my flag-off because I needed to hear from him (Oshiomhole) because I work with him. Then three weeks ago, he said now this thing has been zoned to Akoko Edo, you can join the race.”

Who ever emerges is my own, I will not impose any body. I want to thank Owan East and West, Etsako people too, for conceding the senate seat to Akoko Edo because if this was not done, it would have been impossible for Akoko Edo person to really aspire because Etsako has three Local Governments out of six, Owan has two, Akoko has one and politics is about numbers.

“There was no way Akoko Edo would have had it but because of Adams Oshiomhole, a man of justice, a man of courage, a man who knows that you can only get peace of justice is in place. Therefore I am expecting my thanks to the leadership of AC to zone it to Akoko Edo” he said.
