Oil firm awards scholarships to 34 students

An oil firm, Oriental Energy Resources and Afren Nigeria, yesterday, gave out scholarship grants to 34 deserving students from Effiat, Mbo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State.

Presenting the grants to the beneficiaries, Oriental and Afren, the owners and technical partners respectively of the Ebok Field Offshore, Afren’s Acting Chief Operating Officer, Adebayo Ayorinde, said 12 students in tertiary institutions and 22 secondary schools pupils, benefitted from the scheme.

The companies also announced the donation of academic materials to primary and secondary schools in Effiat.
“Oriental and Afren are committed to cultivating, developing and maintaining good relationships with our host communities,” he said government at all tiers. We are awarding scholarships to deserving beneficiaries and donating some educational materials to encourage learning among our children as part of our core belief in human capital development.

“We are committed to supporting the development of education in the regions where we operate. Ensuring strong technical capabilities amongst our youths will be one of the pillars of ensuring wider local participation in the oil and gas industry and a better future for us all. We wish the recipients luck and ask them to work to ensure that they maximise the value they receive from it”, added Ayorinde

The grants provide an allowance per annum and last for the period of the course being undertaken. Grants can be used to fund any education related costs including text books, lab fees, uniforms and any other fees associated with a student’s studies.
