Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP, said yesterday that except Professor Attahiru Jega, all the new commissioners nominated in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, are either members or supporters of ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The umbrella body of the registered political parties, while reacting to the President Goodluck Jonathan’s intention to withdraw PDP members from the electoral body, insisted that Jonathan must accept the Justice Uwais report as guiding principle if he wants to make any meaningful effort at creating a truly electoral body.

CNPP, which made the remarks in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Osita Okechukwu in Abuja, advised that the only solution is for President Jonathan to urgently submit the three Bills therein in the Uwais Report, as Executive Bills for genuine First Amendment by the National and State Assemblies; rather than the tepid and self glorification document in circulation.

According to him, “Conference of Nigeria Political Parties {CNPP}, for the umpteenth time challenges President Goodluck Jonathan to descend from the High Horse and accept the hard reality that the Uwais Report is the guiding principle and an article of faith; in any genuine attempt to construct a truly Independent National Electoral Commission {INEC}, which will guarantee free, fair and transparent 2011 elections and beyond.

“President Jonathan’s sermon that he will drop partisan nominees is grand orchestra of deception and a cup_half_full; for our investigation shows that , all the nominees were either nominated by Peoples Democratic Party {PDP} governors or party godfathers with the exception of  Professor Attahiru Jega.

“It is our candid view that the only solution is for President Jonathan to as a matter of urgent national importance submit the three Bills therein in the Uwais Report, as Executive Bills for genuine First Amendment by the National and State Assemblies; rather than the tepid and self glorification document in circulation.

“Failure to do this, means that the rigging of 2011 election has commenced and we will hold President Jonathan responsible for failure to muster the necessary political will to mobilize over 800 out of 990 Hon Members of State Houses of Assembly nationwide, over 260 out of 360 Hon Members of the Federal House and over 90 out of 109 Senators of the party he leads – PDP_ to save Nigeria democracy from impending collapse”, he said.
