Mutiu sad over Uche, Anichebe’s exclusion

By Solomon Nwoke
EX- international, Mutiu Adepoju has expressed disappointment over the dropping of  Ikechukwu Uche and Victor Anichebe from the final 23-man squad to the World Cup.

Adepoju paid special tribute to the duo especially to Real Zaragoza of Spain striker, Ikechukwu Uche who was joint top scorer in the qualifiers with four goals but was out of action for seven months following a major knee injury.

“I feel sorry for the two attackers because they are very outstanding players. The two ought to have been in the list of Lagerback”, Adepoju said.

Adepoju however urged Nigerians to be hopeful and have confidence in the team. He said the right players have been selected. He urged them  to work harder in order to avert an embarrassing situation at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“Let’s be hopeful. Our preparation for the World Cup started very late. We had only two weeks to prepare for the fiesta so it wouldn’t have been wise to pick players outside the known ones. All they need do is to work hard before their match against Argentina

‘Head master’ as he was fondly called in his active days commended the team in their friendly match Sunday, against Colombia saying, it was an improvement from the first game against Saudi Arabia.

“The friendly match with Colombia was better than that with Saudi Arabia. I hope they can do better in their next friendly game before the World Cup proper against Argentina on June 12.

There’s no doubt that Argentina parade stars, but it’s not impossible to beat Argentina only if we work harder from now to the opening game
