Lars Lagerback

Hard pressed for a win against South Korea, Eagles coach Lars Lagerback shut out officials of the Nigeria Football Federation and the media out of the team’s training yesterday.

Lagerback, who was taken aback by the defeat to Greece, wanted total concentration as he sought to try out new formations that will guarantee victory over the South Korean team on Tuesday.

“Lagerback decided to close the session entirely to media and other persons outside the team and technical personnel in order to try out new formations and strategies,” said NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire.

Lagerback viewed the last game against Korea as the last chance to redeem his coaching image, which took a dent when the Greeks beat a 10-man team last Thursday. Team confidence was shattered after the loss.

The Eagles were given a free day last Saturday to enable them take their minds off football.

Meanwhile, physiotherapist Ekundayo Ogunkunle said injuries to defenders Taye Taiwo and Elderson Echiejile were “under control”. However, it is not clear if Taiwo, who had a scan on Saturday for a groin complaint, will be fit in time for Tuesday’s showdown.
