ABAKALIKI-FORMER Governor of Abia state and National leader of People’s Progressive Alliance (PPA) Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has paid to Ebonyi state Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) screening fees for all the chairmanship and councillorship candidates contesting the council election under the platform of the party slated for July10 next month.

The Chairman of PPA in Ebonyi state, Chief Cyril Obazi, who disclosed this in Abakaliki said Kalu paid the EBSIEC screening fees free of charge to help the credible candidates that may not have money for the screening.

He noted that the leader of the party will also sponsor the campaign of the candidates to all the council areas with the intending of sweeping the grass root at the poll, adding that PPA is ready to take over Ebonyi state from PDP come 2011 general election.

Obazi however called on EBSIEC to disqualify candidates who failed to resign their appointment with the 30 days to the election as stipulated by the commission’s guideline, alleging that some PDP chairmen and coordinators who wanted to go for second tenure were still in office signing cheques and still with council seals.
