Hang me, cries woman after stabbing lover to death

By Evelyn Usman
LAGOS — A  mild drama unfolded yesterday at the  Oduduwa, Ikeja  office of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, after a woman who allegedly stabbed her live-in  lover  to death, slumped when she was informed of his demise.

The 25-year-old suspect, Ifunanyan Marus, was said to have been living with the 40-year-old businessman  identified as Princewill Chukwugene, in a three-room apartment at Iyafin junction, Badagry area of the state, since 2003.

However, the relationship went sour, following constant fights between the love birds. Eye witnesses’ accounts had it that before the unexpected occurred,  Princewill had on several occasions told Ifunayan to pack out of his house, over what was attributed to her inability to get pregnant.

On one of the occasions, the suspect’s  belongings were reportedly  thrown out by Princewill, consequent upon which she reportedly left for Abuja, only to return last March.

But the unexpected happed last Tuesday, during the usual fight as Ifunanyan was said to have ran into the kitchen where she collected a knife and stabbed Princewill on the left side of his lower abdomen, from where, eye witnesses said, his intestines thrust out.

Efforts to save the life of the Enugu State-born businessman failed. He was rushed to two hospitals where he was rejected and referred to the Lagos State University Teaching. Unfortunately, Princewill reportedly died two days later.

Meanwhile, before  Princewill was rushed to the hospital by sympathizers who met him in the pool of his blood, he was said to have insisted that Ifunayan be arrested to prevent her from escaping. She was subsequently arrested by the policemen from Badagry division, only to be informed yesterday that her deed had resulted in the death of Princewill.

After recovering from the shock, Ifunayan, who wept like a baby, told all present that she never intended killing her lover. Rather, she said she only wanted to scare him with the knife.

To the shock of all present, she said: “I cannot live without Prince. Please hang me or kill me and bury me where he would be buried.”

The suspect, according to the command’s spokesman, Mr Frank Mba, would be transferred to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, from where she would be charged to court.
