Covenant University, Ota, has commenced theÂ implementation of the agreement between the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure, CONUASS and stimulus package.
Dr. David Oyedepo, Chancellor, Covenant University who disclosed this Tuesday in Lagos said the special stimulus package is for advancing the universityâ€™s quest of attaining world class status.
â€œThis implementation is facilitated by a special grant from the proprietors, Living Faith Worldwide Inc. The current fee structure has therefore, not been affected in any way, implying we have not had increase in feesâ€, he said.
He stated that the university is blazing the trail in higher education and driven by the compelling vision of raising a new generation of leaders and to develop the Total Man who will go out to develop his world.
According to him, â€œOur passionate and dogged commitment to excellence and consistent drive for continuous improvement is a major thrust in our quest for attaining world class status in the not too distant future as we address immediate needs in our local and indigenous context.â€
Oyedepo stated that in order to provoke academic productivity and creating platforms for healthy academic competition, the Board of Regents of Covenant University has approval 100% implementation of the FGN/ASUU new pay structure which was recently released by the Federal Government.
This is in addition to other incentives that have been introduced to motivate the entire faculty and staff of the University to greater productivity. Oyedepo revealed that N220 million has been set aside to service the FGN/ASUU agreement.
He explained that the agreement goes beyond the public universities as Covenant University was one of the reference points during the negotiations. That both public and private universities are working towards the same goal to see emergence of quality education in the country.
These incentives are:
*Special Publication Allowance- publications in High Impact Journals shall attract generous financial incentives. In Grade A international journals, shall attract US $1,000, Grade B attracts US $500.00 and Grade C US $200.00.
Grade A local journals attracts N50,000, Grade B N30,000 and Grade C N15,000.
*Books – Authors of books published by the University shall be entitled to royalties.
This will attract N200,000 per contributing author outside royalties.
*Patents Allowance – Patents that have been duly registered shall attract N300,000 for every patent outside royalties.
* For forging Quality Linkages – Faculty who are able to forge linkages with the external context via contributions/network base will attract a special incentive depending on the ranking of the context.
*Special Mentoring Incentive – In order to encourage Senior Faculty (Senior Lecturer- Professors) towards teaching younger faculty the skills of academic publication, these of them who co-author academic journals alongside younger colleagues in Covenant University in Local and International Journals will qualify for special Mentoring Incentive.
