YENAGOA—ABOUT 15 persons were reportedly injured and five houses burnt as youths, weekend, unleashed mayhem on Egbebiri community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State over alleged acquisition of land for a proposed project in the area.

Though the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Solomon Omoemin, confirmed the violent skirmish, he, however, declined to comment on the casualty rate, saying that he was yet to get details from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.

Vanguard learnt that apart from those injured, the rampaging youths also vandalized houses, health centre and water project in the community.

Troubled by the escalating tension, Egbebiri community has sent a Save-Our-Soul message to Governor Timipre Sylva and the Presidency over an alleged plot by five rival communities in the area to exterminate them.

Spokesperson for the community, Abrasike Joshua, said their crime was their alleged role in supporting a project known as Taylor Creek Tourist Project.

Joshua said the invaders brandished dangerous weapons to scare the people in the community, thereby, forcing them to scamper for safety.
