Tsiga urges corps members to become self employed

By James EZEMA
Concerned by employment opportunities available to corps members after service,  Director General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) , Brig-Gen. Maharatsu Ismail Tsiga, has charged corps members to take advantage of programmes being provided by the scheme to make them self-employed.

He said  he had recommended to the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission that a living allowance for members be aligned to that  of the basic salary of Grade Level 7 step 1 officer.

The DG who spoke while commissioning various projects executed by the scheme at its Lagos Secretariat for its staff and corps members, disclosed that all NYSC camps are being equipped to cater for the growing number of corps members.

A multi-purpose hall, a Central Store, a 100 KVA generating plant and job search centre put in place by Dragnet Solutions for the NYSC management were commissioned.

The State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos State, Mr. Ladipo Laniyan, explained that the job search centre, which is equipped with 42 computers will “provide a 21st  century job search engine where serving corps members can easily access tailored job opportunities on the internet.”
