MAKURDI — Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has declared that the nation’s march towards economic recovery and sustainable growth could only be achieved when much premium is placed on capacity building and training for key stakeholders in the nation’s economy.
Suswam said various government policies had in the past suffered neglect due mainly to the lack of well thought out programme of action aimed at sensitizing key actors in the implementation of the policies.
The governor spoke at a two-day capacity building workshop on productivity and quality planning, relationship and time management for total quality service in the state civil service for Permanent Secretaries, Directors and Heads of Government Departments and Agencies. The workshop was organised by Altimage Consults Ltd. under the auspices of the Benue State government.
He said his administration had recorded tremendous successes in its drive to transform Benue State due to his deliberate investments in capacity building for critical stakeholders and top government functionaries in the last three years.
He lamented the recurrent incidents of abandoned projects which he noted was a direct fall out of lack of planning and deficient wherewithal on the part of the implementers of such programmes, stressing that the nation’s economy has been worse for it.
Suswam urged participants at the workshop to dedicate themselves to the training to acquaint themselves with the modern techniques in economic management and planning.
