Robbers raid 3 banks in Anambra, Police nab 5

AWKA — DARE-devil armed robbers, today, raided three commercial banks (names withheld) at Ihiala, Anambra State, carting away millions of naira.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the robbers arrived the area at 11a.m. from Orlu, Imo State, and used dynamites to destroy the doors and burglary proof of the banks before gaining entry into the banking halls.

They were said to have scared residents in the entire area around the famous Nkwo Ogbe market by shooting and throwing bombs which destroyed many equipment in the banks, such as computers and furniture.

According to the witness, while some were shooting outside the banks, which they robbed simultaneously, others were busy collecting cash which they loaded into an Isuzu Jeep which was one of the vehicles they came in.
They were said to be throwing cash into the market while shooting in the air.

It was, however, gathered that a combined team of Mobile Policemen and soldiers arrived about one hour later and engaged the robbers in a gun battle that left several people injured, while five members of the gang were arrested and others fled.
