OWERRI — A preg-nant mother of three, identified as Ijeoma, was early Monday morning brutally murdered by unknown persons in Owerri.
Vanguard investigations revealed that late Ijeoma received a telephone call Sunday night, pleading with her to come out early Monday morning and sell fish to them.
It was further gathered that the “soft-spoken and very friendly woman†left her number 1, Christ Church Road, Owerri residence for her shop situated along School Road, Owerri, to attend to her supposed prospective customers.
A male sympathiser, who pleaded anonymity, said the late woman’s assailants may have used a broken 7-Up bottle to stab her severally in parts of her body.
The man said, “a broken 7-Up bottle, which was lying beside her lifeless body may have been used by her killers.
“They stabbed her severally in parts of her body. She obviously bled to death on the spot. The most baffling thing is that her torchlight, handbag and mobile telephone were not stolen by the hoodlums, giving credence to the fact that her assailants were just after the struggling woman’s life.â€
Vanguard also gathered that one of the early arrivals to the scene of crime was the deceased’s brother, identified as Kelechi, and he quickly alerted his brother in-law.
Police make arrest
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aloysius Okorie, confirmed the story, adding that Owerri Urban Police Division had already made some arrests.
“Some arrests have been made by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Owerri Urban. I do not know the number so far arrested but we are already investigating the issue.
“We will even get to the late woman’s village. Every lead is vital and we will painstakingly probe it,†Okorie promised.
