Police rescue 18 month-old baby, smash syndicate

The Police in Akwa  Ibom State have arrested a gang of kidnappers who abducted an 18 months old boy in Nkwa Ibiono village in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, after they rescued the boy in a certain bush known as Abia Enin, Uyo Obio village in Ikono Local Government Area of the State.

The Police have also smashed several robbery syndicates who have been terrorizing the State and recovered ammunitions, live cartridges, handsets and some huge amounts of money stolen during their raids of some homes and communities.

Addressing newsmen in his office, the State Police Commissioner Mr. Walter Rugbere said, the men of the Command in rapid response to a distress call had  dislodged a gang of armed robbers who stormed a certain hotel in Ikot Ekpene, were two of the robbers, names unknown were shot dead during a gun battle between the Police and the robbers.

The Police according to the CP had earlier rescued a 13 year old girl residing at Atan road, who was kidnapped by a gang of armed men using a bicycle, with one dressed in a military  camouflage uniform, while one Pastor Victor Sunday Ekpo who was arrested by ‘B’ops patrol team along Owot Uta in Ibesikpo Asutan LOCAL government Area was found with two locally made pistol and a laptop.

The Police Boss who vowed to eliminate crime in the State said he was mounting a three days workshop to sensitize the general public on the need to always report suspected moves and persons to the police with several special numbers to be made public to enable the police track down criminals in the State.
