Police arrest 6 kidnappers in Enugu, rescue banker’s daughter

SIX suspected kidnappers who allegedly abducted a third-year medical student of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, UNEC, Miss Ifeoma Uzoma Azubuike from New Haven area of Enugu last Friday, were Wednesday arrested by the police.

The 20-year-old medical student and daughter of a Lagos-based popular banker, was kidnapped along a street in New Haven Enugu where she had gone to visit her grandmother last Friday and was taken to Oruku village in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state.

Narrating her ordeal to Vanguard at Emene Police Station shortly after she was rescued, Ifeoma said that she was abducted by three men in a Coal City taxi who immediately blindfolded her and drove to the village where she was kept for five days, adding that while in the hostage camp, five members of the gang made contacts with her parents in Lagos on phone demanding a ransom of N100 million.

Ifeoma, a native of Nnewi in Anambra State, gave a brief account of how she was kidnapped that fateful day: “I am Ifeome Uzoma Azubuike from Nnewi Anambra State.  My father is Mr. Azubuike, a banker based in Lagos. The kidnappers said they were sent by someone whom my father supposedly owed some money.

“They said my father was owing the man N67 million and that they were demanding N100 million.
