By Anayo Okoli

Umuahia — GOVERNOR Theodore Orji of Abia State, yesterday, signed into law the 2010 Appropriation Bill of N65.7 billion, and  promised that it will be prudently managed.

The budget was increased from N60.5 to N65.7 by the House of Assembly.

At the ceremony, Governor Orji warned those charged with the execution of the budget to be ready to properly manage it or be ready to face consequences of mismanagement.

Orji noted that he was always ready to ensure that the state remained solvent at all times, saying there was need for fiscal discipline, if the state was to be on top of its financial problems.

The governor warned that all projects must be well planned for.

According to him, “the budget is both for the hope of the people of the state and the future and any body found wanting will be dealt with accordingly.

“I pledge to follow the implementation of the budget to its logical conclusion and I expect others along the line to do same. This is because the budget was prepared with the current fiscal indices.”

He described the budget as the answer to many financial problems of the state, even as he commended  members of the State House of Assembly for their partnership in the past three years.

Governor Orji used the forum to direct ministries to prepare lists of vacant positions for possible recruitment in the near future.
