Akure- FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo, Saturday , in Akure, received business mogul, Chief Jimoh Ibrahim and others to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, vowing that the party would win back Ondo State in the next elections.
â€œEvent of today is not only a rally, it is not only that we are receiving those that are coming into the PDP, today, we are carrying out a renewal of PDP in Ondo Stateâ€, Chief Obasanjo said..
Others who returned to the party and were received at a rally held at the Akure Town hall included Otunba Oyewole Fasawe and Rueben Ogunbadejo.
SaturdayÂ rally was attended by the Defense Minister Tokunbo Kayode, two South West governors, Segun Oni of Ekiti State and Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State and the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Taofiq Arapaja, Ondo State former governor, Olusegun Agagu and leaders of the party across the country.
Tokunbo who represented President Goodluck Jonathan and the three governors said in unison that the PDP would win back the state.
However speaking in Yoruba, Chief Obasanjo who confessed that the Court of Appeal Judgment that ousted Dr Agagu jolted him to the marrows however said that he as a person has taken solace in God.
According to himâ€ l never expected the judgment of the Appeal Court to sack the former governor Dr Olusegun Agagu and installed Dr Olusegun Mimiko but we have accepted the verdict and taken solace in God the final decider of matters.
â€œWe have prayed to God to intervene and restore the party in the state and we are sure that as from year 2011 election the party would bounce back to reckoning in this state.
He noted that despite the Court of Appeal judgment the â€œPDP is still waxing strong in Ondo State going by the mammoth crowd that are here today.
Chief Obasanjo who commended the PDP governors in the South West for not disappointing the people of the states said that he is proud of them.
He singled out the immediate past governor Agagu for the impressive legacies he left behind in the state.
The former President said that he personally attended the rally to receive Jimoh Ibrahim to the party and to assure the people of the state that â€œPDP is not sleeping in Ondo State .â€
According to him PDP is only out of government but by the grace of God would reclaim the state through the ballot box. While saying that the door of the party is wide open for new members, the former President advised aspirants seeking political offices to avoid internal wrangling.
Obasanjo said that any aspirant who failed to clinch the party ticket after the primaries into offices should not in anger leave the party for another.
