No smooth election with faulty voters’ register – Ngige

ABAKALIKI — Former Governor of Anambra State and the governorship candidate of Action Congress, AC, in the state’s 6 February election, Dr. Chris Ngige, has said there would be no good election in Nigeria with bad voters’ register.

Ngige, who is currently at the tribunal in Awka to challenge the validity of the election of  Governor Peter Obi of All Progressive Grand Alliance, stressed that his petition at the tribunal was not a vindictive mission against the Governor but a mission that would form part of the electoral reform in Nigeria, which other states and candidates stood to benefit from when the judgment was delivered.

Ngige, who spoke in an exclusive interview with Vanguard, said he was convinced that his going to the tribunal to challenge the  governorship election was doing the right thing to the greater benefits of majority of the people of Nigeria.

He said “this is because next time if Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, goes to a state, conducts election without a voters’ register, people will go to court and get the election nullified.

“So it will be incumbent on anybody trying to win an election in any state to make sure that the INEC voters’ register is good.”
