NFA raises alarm over threats by a ‘faceless group’

By Jacob Ajom

The Nigeria Football Association has alerted the minister of sports and chairman, National Sports Commission, Isa Bio, the law enforcement agencies and indeed, Nigerians on an alleged plan by a group of persons to cause civil unrest today, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

A terse text message from the media officer of the NFA, Ademola Olajire, to  Sports Vanguard stated that the association had alerted the minister on plans by some “faceless, spineless persons to foist disquiet on the FCT on Monday, using the name of the federation.”

The NFA outrightly distanced itself from the alleged plan and denied emphatically that, “the elements with devious motives were neither members nor affiliates of the federation.”

Explaining further, Olajire said the intention of the group was to cause unnecessary tension by “disrupting the peace in a week the nation was excitedly looking forward to sending the Super Eagles off to the World Cup finals.”

Sports Vanguard’s independent sources hinted that the group has been “hired by some people with political ambition to cause civil disturbance using the name of the NFA.”
