By Kenneth Ehigiator

LAGOS—As part of measures to ensure security of airports across the country, Arik Air has acquired a hi-tech security equipment, Morpho Itemiser, that could detect all manner of drugs and explosives.

The equipment, according to the airline, will complement efforts of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, to guarantee safety and security at airports.

With the equipment, the airline was able to arrest a computer smuggling ring on one of its international flights and a gang that was trying to smuggle watches and jewelry into a flight.

Arik Air’s Acting Managing Director, Mr. Chris Ndulue, who said this in Lagos, weekend, added that the equipment was to help checkmate activities that could rubbish the nation’s image.

“We have invested a lot of money on the procurement of hi-tech equipment like the Morpho Itemiser which is the latest narcotics and explosives detector. The Itemiser is capable of detecting molecular and vapour from drugs.”
