N’Delta youths urge Orubebe to speak up

WARRI — A NIGER Delta youths group, the Niger Delta Youths Assembly for Peace and Justice (NDYAPJ), has called on the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsdey Orubebe to speak up on the allegation raised by the Itsekiri National Youths Council (INYC) alleging that 20 housing units allocated to the Itsekiri, which were to be built in  Itsekiri community of Ode-Itsekiri, have now been moved to the Ijaw community of Opuraza on the directive of the minister.

Rising from its national officers meeting, which held at Sapele, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Ejiro Akpomiemie, told Vanguard that “it is unfortunate that since the allegation was made, the Niger Delta Ministry has not deemed it fit to inform the public on the true situation of things, i.e. on the veracity or otherwise of the allegation.”

Ejiro, said it smacked of official show of power by the minister to take a whole people for a ride, maintaining that it was dangrous for the minister to remain silent on a matter of such magnitude.

He warned that nobody should assume that the Niger Delta  “is synonymous with any ethnic group and now that such group has found itself in power, it should not think that it would tyrannise others without being challenged. 2010
