Lagos State Government plans toÂ celebrate Chief MoladeÂ Okoya-Thomas at 75 years, as part of the effort to sustain public private partnership and encourage individuals and corporate organisation.
The state government is honouring ChiefÂ Okoya-Thomas for hisÂ immense contribution to the development of Sports includingÂ the annual sponsorship of the Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championship since 1968.
He was a member of the quartet thatÂ won and set the Nigeria record for 4 Ã— 220 yards which still subsist till today. Sir Okoya-Thomas had singularly donated a sports hall to the Lagos State University; a member of the fund raising committee for the construction of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere; member, Lagos City Council between 1971-1975, member, Lagos State Development and Property Corporation. He was also the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Glover Memorial Hall and Tom Jones Hall among others.
The Commissioner for Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele say government having takenÂ into consideration the numerous contributions of Sir Okoya-Thomas has decided to celebrate him at theÂ age of 75 years on June 8th 2010 with the naming of the Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium on 8th June 2010 at 1.00pm and a State Dinner in City Hall, Lagos Island at 6.30pm.
