Jonathan in Gusau, to inaugurate smelting plant

President Goodluck Jonathan will today commission the multi-million naira mineral processing industry in Gusau during his one-day official visit to Zamfara State.

The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Aliyu Adamu, said this at a briefing, yesterday, in Gusau.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the visit was earlier scheduled for 1 June, but was brought forward to ensure the President’s physical presence for the event.

The factory was initiated last year by Governor  Mahmuda Shinkafi in an effort to provide alternative revenue base and employment opportunities.

The project, which was executed under a 60-40 per cent funding ratio between the Zamfara State Government and its Chinese partners, is expected to create no fewer than 4,000 jobs.

It is also expected to smelt and roll iron as well as process other minerals such as gold, zinc and other deposits.

Meanwhile, Gusau is wearing a new look preparatory to the President’s visit today. The capital has been decorated while potholes on major roads have been sand filled.

The President will also inspect some on-going projects embarked upon by the government.
