In the bid to ensure the return of members of the current board of the Nigeria Football Association for second term, no fewer than 30 State FA chairmen have been approved to join the delegation to next month’s FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.
The decision was reached at the meeting of the Forum of the State FA Chairmen that lasted till midnight of Wednesday in Abuja .
Insisting that the World Cup trip would not be a jamboree, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, chairman of the NFA Technical Committee, said yesterday that “the World Cup plan by the football house was quite commendable in view of the beautiful innovation to involve all the stakeholders in the plan implementationâ€.
Just after Chief Ogunjobi had made the remark, some State FA chairmen virtually took over the protocol unit of the NFA to submit their international passports for the procurement of their visa to South Africa.
It was understood that the African Cup of Nations and World Cup trips were the carrot promised the State FA chairmen by the leadership of the NFA to ensure their second term ticket.
A dependable source hinted that the foreign trip promised to the State FA chairmen was responsible for the vote of confidence being passed on the leadership of the NFA in its nationwide tour to canvass for support.
“This is the first time State FA Chairmen are remembered. I am happy. If it’s you won’t you be happyâ€, one of the State FA chairmen said as he headed to the NFA secretariat with his passport.
