In its avowed bid to maintain the standard and entertain her numerous subscribers, MNET, theÂ producers of TINSEL, the glamorous soap opera which premiered in September 2008 and has grown in popularity all over the continent, last Thursday launched Season 3 of the popular T.V. show.
The movie which is rich with good pictures and excellent characters with intriguing story line was unveiled to the press at the Philips Studios in Ojota, Lagos.
According to M-Netâ€™s Africa Director Biola Alabi , the story of TINSEL began with a colourful first season in 2008, followed by an exciting and glamorous second season in 2009 and now, Season 3 in 2010. This development according her, â€œis a proof of the productâ€™s tremendous growth without compromising on quality.â€
The studio based T.V drama set against the backdrop of the thriving movie industry in Nigeria with a subtle blend of love, struggle for power, fame and relevance is made up of actors from Nigeria with leads and supporting casts from Ghana, Kenya and South Africa.
According to Alabi â€œTinsel which is shot in Lagos, Nigeria and is shown across Africa has grown immensely to hit a strong viewer base across Africa and we aim to get stronger.â€
The programme which premiers solely on M-net on the DSTV platform will run on Mondays and Wednesdays. From 31st May 2010, it will be shown daily, from Mondays to Friday at 20.30 (CAT).
And as part of Mnetâ€™sÂ ever-growing investment in the African film and TV industry, from August 2010 , Sunday arts gathered, Tinsel will alsoÂ be filming on HD FORMAT, making it the latest technology worldwide, a technology capable of making Tinsel go on high Definition Format.
With seasons one and two which ran for 65 and 156 episodes respectively, Season three which opens with a load of questions about the circumstances surrounding the death of Fredâ€™s daughter, Monica Ade Williams will run 261 episodes thereby offering more entertainment services to DSTV viewers .
M-Netâ€™s Africa Director, Biola Alabi says TINSEL remains a key part of M-Netâ€™s plans in Africa adding that Season 3 is going to open a new chapter in the life programme, â€œWe always intended to invest significantly in TINSEL and the new season is set to provide great new plot lines and all the unexpected drama that make soap operas so attractive to audiences.â€
On the inclusion of casts from other African countries she said that the purpose isÂ to make the show a much more diversified casts driven programme as well as a global fitting production.Â And on plans to make the services available to other viewers apart from MNETâ€™sÂ subscribers, BiolaÂ pointed out that the most important thing is to continue to meet international standard arguing that after satisfying the subscribers that DSTV subscribers can be considered.
