Govs didn’t dictate VP-nominee to Jonathan, says Saraki

By Demola Akinyemi
The Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum  and the Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has said that the 36 state governors were not involved in the selection of the former governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, as the vice-president-nominee.

Gov. Saraki, who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin, yesterday, noted that the choice of Sambo by President Goodluck Jonathan was purely made by him in keeping faith with the existing zoning system of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

He spoke against the backdrop of allegation that the governors dictated to President Jonathan on the choice of  his deputy, describing it as a rumour. According to him: “This is a wrong impression that the president should do this or that because the governors never told the president since we are not interested in the issue.”

“Even, the last time we saw Mr. President at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, we never spoke about it, the visit was strictly on consoling him over the loss of the late president Umaru Yar’Adua and gave him our support,” he said.

“We never told him to choose anybody for VP,” Saraki added.
