Four Mobile Policemen die in crash

Jos -Tragedy hit the Plateau State Police Command on Sunday as it lost four of its anti riot policemen in a ghastly automobile accident in the state capital.

One of them is said to be on danger list at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) while 11 are admission at the Plateau Specialist Hospital.

The 16 of them were said to be on their way to the Rwang Pam Township Stadium around 3 pm. to provide security for the league match scheduled for that day when the Police Toyota Hilux van with registration number NPF7559D which was conveying them lost control and had a fatal crash.

The driver was reported to have lost control of the vehicle in front of the Hill Crest School, Jos close to the Plateau Specialist Hospital somersaulting several times and throwing some of the occupants on the highway.

An eyewitness said four of them including the driver died instantly while one was seriously injured and was referred to JUTH from the specialist hospital. The bodies of the four dead policemen were also deposited at the hospital.

Matron on duty at the Casualty Ward of the Plateau Specialist Hospital Mrs. Patricia Dada told journalists that 16 of them were taken to the hospital with four already dead.

He said one of them had to be referred to JUTH immediately because of his precarious condition adding that the 11 others who sustained various degrees of injuries were receiving attention.

Spokesman of the state police command, Mohammed Lerama who confirmed the incident described it as a big shock to the command.
