EFCC offensive against Ibori, political – Omolubi

 By Emma Amaize , Warri

Niger Delta activist, Mr. Omolubi Newuwumi says the current offensive against the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori by both the Federal Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reeks of political vendetta rather than the make-believe fight against corruption.

Mr. Newuwumi told reporters in Warri that the cabal in the Nigerian political class, which prevented Ibori from becoming the running mate of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua was also bent on  truncating his ambition to run with former President Ibrahim Babaginda in 2011.

Omolubi said he decided to speak out because there was need for Deltans to know what was really going on, adding, “I call on Deltans to come out and fight for Ibori so that his case will not be like that of former Bayelsa State governor, DSP Alamieyeseigha, who was disgraced by the Federal Government, not because of the corrupt charges against him, but, because both of them were the governors in Niger Delta that were in the forefront for resource control”.
