ABUJAâ€”The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Usman Bayero Nafada has been conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by the European-American University in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
The ceremonies for the award, organised by the Africa Regional Operations of the University was held on Saturday at the University of Ghana in Accra,Â according to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Deputy Speaker, Hameed Bello.
The Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa (Hon. D.H.L) was conferred on the Deputy Speaker by the President of the European-American University, Professor John Kersey who was represented by the Vice President, Professor Andrew Linley.
Mr. Linley explained that the award was given in recognition of Nafadaâ€™s philanthropy and patriotism to fatherland.
In his remarks, the Head of European-American University, All Africa Coordinator, Professor Williams Egbuta said the award was given to Nafada â€œin viewÂ of your outstanding contributions and achievements in the said career field and to the advancement of humanity in generalâ€.
In his reaction, Nafada said the recognition given him was humbling and a challenge thrown at him to do better for society and advancing the cause of education for Nigerians in particular and Africans in general.
