CTN: Senate accuses NPA of misleading govt

By Godfrey Bivbere

Senate Committee on Marine Transport has accused the management of Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA of misleading the Federal Government into approving the controversial Cargo Tracking Note, CTN, even as the management has revealed that it has collected 1.59 million euros from the scheme in five months.

Speaking at a public hearing on the CTN, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Gbemi Saraki, explained that it was NPA’s recommendation that the Ministry of Transport took to the Federal Executive Council, FEC, and with which approval was given for the CTN.

She said apart from misleading government by claiming that there would not be additional charges to the Nigerian importer, the NPA had been keeping the funds so far collected in an account not known to government.
