Centrica commits to Nigeria’s energy devt

By Yemie Adeoye
CENTRICA global integrated energy company, noted for expertise in gas and power has announced that it remains committed to helping Nigeria actualize its energy development road map.

Mr. Stuart Connal, Managing Director of Centrica Resources (Nig) Ltd, said the implementation of the company’s initiatives will not only develop local capacity in the energy sector but also boost the economic potential of Nigeria.

He stated further that “Centrica’s mission in Nigeria is to assist the country, the world’s seventh largest producer of gas, maximize its potential through exploitation of the huge investment opportunity that the vast reserve of natural gas and proximity to the Atlantic Basin gas market offer”.

“We therefore fully support the Federal Government’s effort of achieving sustainable development of the energy sector and subsequently look forward to align it with our project development plans for the overall benefit of Nigerians”, he added.

Analyzing the gas market, the Centrica boss emphasized that Nigeria ought to take advantage of the enormous gas market in the United Kingdom and the US.

“Market forecast indicates that the supply of UK gas needs will be sourced from outside the country and this presents a huge opportunity for Nigeria”. Centrica, he said, is positioned to receive cargoes of Nigerian gas into the UK market.

Reviewing the presence of the company in Nigeria, Mr. Connal emphasized that both the medium and short term opportunities were enormous, advising the Federal Government to fast track implementation of ongoing initiatives in the energy sector.

It will be recalled that Centrica first came to Nigeria in 2005 and is currently focusing its medium to long term plans on midstream business opportunities.
