PORT HARCOURT— Govrnor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has called on the federal government to relocate the headquarters of the Nigerian Navy to the state.

Governor Amaechi made the appeal during the commissioning of projects at NNS Pathfinder in Port Harcourt.
Represented by his deputy, Mr. Tele Ikuru, Governor Amaechi reassured the Navy of the state government’s continued support in its quest to discharge its constitutional role of defending the country, saying the state would cooperate with the Navy in every area necessary.

Commending the outgoing Commanding Officer of NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Yusuf Hinna, for discharging his duties creditably and maintaining transparency and accountability during his tenure, the governor said “Hinna has left a mark that is indelible and he will be remembered for his achievements.”

Earlier, Commodore Hinna had praised the state government for the hand of fellowship extended to him during his stay in the state, noting that the various projects executed during his tenure were possible due to the support received from the government.

He appealed to the state government to extend same cordial relationship accorded him to his successor
saying that the Navy during his tenure received seven gunboats, accommodation for its personnel, funds and other resources that have enhanced its operational capability.
