Akanya Wins CICAN Public Servant of the Year Award

The Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria has voted    Dr. John Ndanusa Akanya, the Director General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria as the Most Outstanding Public Servant in the Commerce and Industry sub-sector for 2009.

The Association in its letter of nomination said it was particularly impressed with the uncommon zeal and passion which he had consistently demonstrated in the battle against substandard and unwholesome products and the promotion of local industries in Nigeria.

According to CICAN, Dr. Akanya in the pursuit of SON’s mandate had shown that the task required a commitment that is beyond the call of duty and have infected many of the Organisation’s staff with the rare attribute making them work tirelessly even at great risks to their lives.

Presenting the award to Dr. Akanya’s representative at the CICAN 2010 Crystal Nite of Excellence in Lagos over the weekend, the Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa attested to the invaluable contributions of the awardee particularly in promoting and supporting the industrial sector in Nigeria.

A holder of the National award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), Dr. John Ndanusa Akanya, Associate Professor of analytical chemistry is a Lead Assessor in Quality, Environmental and Laboratory Management Training and winner of over 70 scholarly, merit and chieftaincy awards as well as fellowships of many professional Institutes.
