Adeniyi out, Niboro takes over as presidential spokesman

ABUJA—AFTER about 30 months of sojourn in Aso Rock as a cabinet member in the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s government, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, yesterday handed over media and publicity operations in Aso Rock to Mr Ima Niboro, who had functioned as the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity.

Segun, as he popularly called formally handed over to Niboro, who is next to him in hierarchy, at a brief ceremony, which was witnessed by staff of the department, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja

The outgoing media aide who had prepared to resign as soon as President Yar’Adua recovers, but could not have his wish come to pass as his boss passed on from a prolong illness.

Segun who enjoyed the support and co-operation of journalists who cover the Presidency was an editor with Thisday Newspaper before he was appointed, and became the first presidential media aide to enjoy the status of a cabinet member.

He was a Special Adviser, and not a Chief Press Secretary, CPS, as it was the case with his predecessor, Mrs Remi Oyo, who worked under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

During the handing over ceremony, Niboro praised Adeniyi for his hard work, commitment and dedication to duties while holding forth as the Presidential Spokesman and pledged to draw from his wealth of experience as a foremost journalist.
