2010 World Cup: I’m not under pressure, says Lagerback

By Fidelis Ebu, Abuja
Eagles Technical Adiser, Lars Lagerback, has declared that he was not under any pressure to perform at next month’s 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa

He said the pressure would be on the Nigerian fans for the Eagles to perform. The Swede, who was yet to meet physically with the players he would assemble for the Mundial, said the two weeks camping which resumes in London on May 21 would afford him the opportunity of interacting with them.

“We are sure of three international friendly matches against Saudi Arabia, Colombia and South Korea before the World Cup, and we would use the opportunity to blend.

“The friendlies would afford us the opportunity of studying players properly and know the real stuff in them before narrowing our list to the required 23-man team. From the calibre of players on the current list, we have a mixed squad and I am satisfied with the combination”, Lars Lagerback said.

While fielding questions on how he came about the players including the fresh injection, the Swede said, “Their performance during the African Cup of Nations in Angola gave us the satisfaction that this could be a solid team, and I am satisfied with the quality of the players”.
