Local Black Stars coach Herbert Addo said he was in Nigeria not as a spectator, but instead to make an impact with his team.

He led an 18-member team of locals from Accra on Wednesday for the WAFU [West Africa Football Union] Nations Cup competition which begins today.

“We are on a mission. We must return with a prize and that is my sole objective,” Addo told Goal.com.
“I have firm hope in the team and they are really ready to deliver. We are going for the gold and with hard work we’ll get there.”

The Black Stars are paired with Burkina Faso, Liberia and Togo in the eight-nation competition.
Ghana’s opening group game is against Burkina Faso, familiar opponents after the Black Stars recently edged them out of the qualifying for the CHAN.

The competition was revived two years ago when Dr. Amos Adamu became its president. Ghana are the defending champions having won the last edition in Oghara, Delta State, Nigeria.  The tournament runs until Sunday, April 18.
