Speaker condemns slow pace of work on Enugu-Port Harcourt highway

Enugu—The Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr Eugene Odoh, has condemned the slow pace of rehabilitation of the Enugu-Onitsha and Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriage ways.

Making his feelings known during plenary at the weekend, Odoh said that the entire rehabilitation was “nauseating and fell short of quality in the contractual agreements.

“It is unfortunate that this contract has caused more harm than it was supposed to correct. It is unfortunate that this contractor was mobilised up to 50 per cent.’’

Odoh lamented that it was the same “laissez fair’’ attitude that delayed the completion of rehabilitation work on same roads after several contract awards.

He  promised that the legislators would visit the roads to ascertain what was delaying the job.

Meanwhile, the House held a valedictory session in honour of late Emmanuel Macduhu, a former legislator in the first legislature of the Second Republic.

Macduhu represented Igbo-Etiti North in the Old Anambra State House between 1979 and 1983.

In his remarks, the Speaker described the deceased as a community leader and a philanthropist, who left an indelible mark in Igbo-Etiti political history.

He urged the family to bear the loss with fortitude, promising that the House would assist in immortalising the ideals of their father.
