Sokoto guber petition: Useni urges tribunal to deliver judgment

ABUJA—THE National Chairman of Democratic Peoples’ Party, DPP, General Jeremiah Useni has called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, to as a matter of urgency put in place a panel that would determine the motions to allow the Sokoto Court of Appeal deliver the gubernatorial election petition judgment.

Useni who described the adjournment by the Supreme Court of hearing the motion from 30 March to 19th April, 2010 as a judicial Coup de’tat, urged Justice Katsina-Alu to treat the matter as an emergency, adding, “we therefore agree with the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, that what the Supreme Court has done and is doing in this matter amounts both in fact and in law to a Judicial Coup detat, amounts to an unbridled interference and grievous assault on the Constitution itself.

The DPP National Chairman who spoke through the party’s Director, Media and Publicity, Abubakar Ateeku Yusuf yesterday in Abuja noted that the substantive appeal in the Court of Appeal Abuja Division on which the various applications were predicated, was withdrawn on the 12 February, 2010 vide the filing of a notice of withdrawal of the appeal.
