Senatorial aspirant extols Oshiomole’s govt

By Ifeanyi Okolie
The Deputy National President, Nigerian labour Congress, Comrade Onikolease Irabor, has described the leadership of Governor Adams Oshiomole in Edo State as one of the greatest things that has happened in the state since it was created.

The labour leader, who is reportedly eying a senatorial seat in the 2011 general election for the Esan East Local Government Area, LGA, noted that the state government under the leadership of Oshiomhole has made landmark achievements that could be aptly described as the best in the history of the state stating that.

“ I must make it clear that the people of the state are indeed blessed with Oshiomhole at the helm of affairs in Edo. I will complement all his efforts if given the mandate in the next election.”

The board member of the International Transport Federation, ITF, posited that with his years in labour activism, he should be able to transmit these experiences into people -oriented governance in the lives of the Edo people through Ward 10 in Edo Central senatorial district.

He stated further that come 2011 the People Democratic Party, PDP, shall cease to exist in Edo State.

“Let me make this clear, Action Congress (AC) is the party for the future of Nigeria and I want to tell you that I hope to run on that platform by God’s grace if I am called upon to do so by my people. In Edo politics, from now on, there would no longer be anything like money or God-fathers type of politic, what you would see is pure ideology and charismatic- driven partisan politic.”

Irabor explained that this was achievable in Nigeria just like other parts of the world and that Adams Oshiomhole, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State and Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos have been able to demonstrate that ideas truly rule the world. “Look at what is happening in Lagos, who would ever believe that one would one day drive through Oshodi to Iyana-Ipaja through the former Ogun State/Lagos toll-gate.   But today, this is the reality on ground, so this is an indication that change is possible once there is the will,” he said.

The immediate past President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) admitted that change, the only constant thing in life does not come easy but that it was possible. He stated that soon a monumental change would be witnessed in Edo state.
